The First Nation School Board (FNSB) was established in February 2022. Our main office is located in Whitehorse, Yukon, on the territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council. FNSB serves and works in partnership with Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation, Liard First Nation, Ross River Dena Council, Champagne and Aishihik First Nation, White River First Nation, Ta'an Kwäch'än Council, Kwanlin Dün First Nation, Selkirk First Nation, Carcross/Tagish First Nation, and Kluane First Nation for the schools and Learners on their territories.

Our approach to instruction, programming, and operations promotes reconciliation by being grounding in Yukon First Nations values of student-centered, strengths-based, and community-led. Board-run schools are for all Yukon students.

The Literacy Coach plays a vital role in advancing the strategic priorities of the First Nation School Board (FNSB) by strengthening literacy instruction and fostering equitable learning opportunities for all students. Grounded in FNSB's circular model and guided by Yukon First Nation Ways, this role is built on the understanding that literacy development is enhanced through strong relationships, culturally responsive practices, and meaningful collaboration with educators, school leaders, local First Nations, families, and community partners.

The Literacy Coach works alongside educators to build instructional capacity, support evidence-informed literacy practices, and create inclusive learning environments that honour local First Nations languages, cultures, and worldviews.

Through coaching, mentoring, professional learning, and collaborative planning, the Literacy Coach supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of literacy programming across FNSB schools. The role provides coaching by modeling effective practices, facilitating the use of assessment to inform instruction, developing and sharing high-quality resources, and supporting school-based literacy initiatives that reflect each community's unique educational aspirations. By fostering continuous improvement, promoting culturally relevant literacy practices, and strengthening educator confidence and competence, the Literacy Coach contributes to improved student outcomes and the realization of FNSB's vision for learner success and educational excellence.
