Applications are invited for the Learning Partner
- Leadership & Parent Engagement (Indigenous Education). Under the direction of the Principal of LPE and working in collaboration with the Indigenous Education Coordinator, the Indigenous Learning partner will provide support, advocacy, and advisory services to Indigenous students, families and staff at K-12 schools within the Ottawa Catholic School Board. This is a full-time permanent position and will start on August 31, 2026.
- Collaborate with school board staff, including school administrators, guidance counselors and educators to provide appropriate school and classroom content to best support Indigenous students
- Develop and facilitate professional learning for staff and educators regarding appropriate pedagogical practices relating directly to Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing
- Maintain and build relationships with Indigenous community members to support Indigenous & non-Indigenous student learning
- Create lessons, units and resources, directly relating to Indigenous ways of knowing, for all grades and across all subjects to implement throughout the system
- Liaising with all board departments to support appropriate implementation of Indigenous content throughout the system
- Supporting educators in Social Studies with appropriately implementing Indigenous content and ways of knowing
- Knowledge and understanding of land-based learning and its relation to Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing (Etuaptmumk)
- Working in collaboration with community partners on the creation of a land camp for use by OCSB staff and students
- Providing practice-embedded professional and community learning. This learning should integrate Indigenous pedagogical practices, leveraging digital and rich tasks to engage students in deep learning
- Using Google Suites and social media to support effective communication
- Ontario College of Teachers Certificate, in good standing
- Lived experience, deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities
- A minimum of 1+ years of teaching experience (applicable for postings during the 2026/2027 school year)
- An established foundation of relationships and connection to Indigenous community members
- Experience working directly with Indigenous students
- Understanding the diversity and composition of local Indigenous communities.
- Awareness of local community resources and the ability to support students/families/staff in accessing and navigating these resources
- Demonstrated ability to be a mentor, advisor and advocate for students
- Excellent organizational, collaboration and communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Growing Success Document, the deep learning framework, differentiated instruction and current practices in assessment & evaluation
- Demonstrated knowledge of the most current First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies curriculum and strategies for implementation
- Creativity and expertise in leading and successfully implementing new initiatives at the school and/or system level, and the ability to develop partnerships
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, dynamic and creative team environment
- Strong technology skills, including Google Suite, social media, and related digital tools to support digital citizenship.
- Experience facilitating and presenting to groups of teachers
- Willingness to travel across the system
- Primary/Junior and/or Intermediate/Secondary qualifications
- Ability to speak French, Anishinaabemowin, or other Indigenous languages
- Demonstrated knowledge of the OCSB Indigenous Ed Framework
In accordance with Board Policy, this position will be for a three (3) year term. These terms may be extended one year at a time, for up to an additional two (2) years at the discretion of the Director of Education.
The terms and conditions of this position shall be consistent with the terms outlined in the collective agreement and in accordance with Board Policy.
