Course Description
Lead the academic component of the Teaching, Immersion & English Refinement (TIER) Program for professors from the Universidad del Atlantico, delivered at the University of Ottawa's Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI). This program integrates targeted English language development (B1-B2 levels) with professional training in English-Medium Instruction (EMI), and includes a pre-arrival component, online learning, in-person instruction, and a post-program implementation lab.
The instructor will design and deliver engaging sessions on topics such as EMI classroom communication strategies, academic vocabulary, course planning, assessment methods, and adapting instructional materials for multilingual learners. The role requires close collaboration with a fellow instructor to ensure curriculum coherence and pedagogical alignment, as well as the supervision of a teaching assistant. Responsibilities include preparing and facilitating lessons, creating and evaluating assignments, integrating relevant digital teaching tools, supporting the pre-arrival component, leading the post-program implementation lab and guiding a teaching assistant.
Instruction will be aligned with the program's objectives to enhance participants' English proficiency and strengthen their capacity to teach effectively in EMI contexts, supporting their professional growth and institutional internationalization goals.
This course includes online, in-person, pre-arrival, and post-program implementation lab components. In-person instruction is offered on the University of Ottawa campus and requires in-person attendance.
