About the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law

Over the past 20 years, the Common Law Section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa has become a national and global leader in many fields. We are the only law school to offer a common law degree in both English and French, and our faculty is one of the most accomplished in the country. We are an engaged Faculty, and we have a strong culture of public engagement.

We also have a strong bond with the legal community in Ottawa and a special relationship with the Supreme Court of Canada. Position Purpose

The Common Law Section has established an Experiential and Clinical Learning Hub (the ExCL Hub) to provide a pedagogical framework and operational infrastructure for supporting teaching, learning and supervision across all experiential and clinical entities, courses and programs. This position oversees the operation of the ExCL Hub, including planning, budgeting, fundraising, administration, resource creation, training, and supervision. The position may include teaching and supervision in relation to development of knowledge, skills and values in legal practice, dispute resolution and professional responsibility.

The position must ensure that all experiential and clinical learning programs are undertaken in alignment with best practices in risk and practice management and relevant regulatory requirements, including those of the Law Society of Ontario and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise, leadership, and innovative practices to develop and enhance experiential and clinical learning opportunities in the Common Law Section, in French and English and in both the English and French Programs.
  • Manage the operation of the Experiential and Clinical Learning Hub (ExCL Hub) as an institutional framework and infrastructure for developing and supporting experiential and clinical learning opportunities in the Common Law Section, in French and English for both the English and French Programs.
  • Undertake strategic planning, budgeting and fundraising for the ExCL Hub.
  • Engage with professors and staff in the Common Law Section involved in experiential and clinical learning, in both the English and French Programs, to ensure a collaborative and coordinated approach.
  • Engage with professors and staff in other University of Ottawa faculties and programs involved in experiential and clinical learning to ensure appropriate alignment of activities and operations and to advance collaborative initiatives.
