Homeschool Liaison (Casual)

Salary is commensurate based on a stipend of $8,925 for the period September 1 to August 31

Under the general direction of the Principal, Student Achievement, the Homeschool Liaison will work with families who decide to provide home schooling for their children, under the Policy/Program Memorandum 131 (PPM
131). The Homeschool Liaison acts as an intermediary between the District and families who have made the decision to homeschool.

Within a K-12 framework the successful candidate will:

• work both independently, and as a member of the Student Achievement team;
• contact new and existing home school families;
• conduct investigations as per PPM
  131 and write reports as required;
• answer questions and provide information to families about homeschooling in Ontario;
• act as a liaison between families and schools, to set up access to assessments and tests administered by the education quality and accountability office which is a resource for parents that is provided through PPM
  131;
• provide assistance and guidance to families wishing to find curriculum documents and navigate registering for TVO/ ILC (Independent Learning Centre);
• experience as a liaison working with families in the educational sector;
• familiarity with Policy/Program Memorandum 131 and the Education Act in Ontario;
• ability to understand student achievement data effectively and to be able to determine student progress;
• inherent in this position is the need for flexibility and the ability to adapt to the environment based on the programming and operational needs of the District;
• strong oral and written communication skills;
• demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching.

This experience would normally be acquired through direct knowledge and experience as a K-12 educator, with a breadth of experience/knowledge in teaching some of the following areas:
Literacy, Mathematics, French as a Second Language (FSL), Science, Geography, History, and/or Arts. Experience in a variety of school settings is considered an asset.

A valid Police Records Check satisfactory to the OCDSB is required.

The duties and responsibilities of this position may be subject to change, further to confirmation of transfer payment details from the Ministry of Education.
