Senior Hardware Sustaining Engineer - Onsite Position

We’re looking for a highly motivated senior hardware sustaining engineer who lives and breathes embedded hardware design to help us create the latest in embedded systems technology at our world class facility in Ottawa, ON.

As our Senior Hardware Sustaining Engineer, you will provide engineering support for all aspects of production from supporting the debug and repair facility to addressing issues with manufacturing test equipment. You’ll also be involved with technical investigations that vary from field reported issues to yield improvements in production. Finally, you’ll support the R&D team with test setups and scripting to automate test.

Salary: $90,300.00 - $ per year plus bonus.

Responsibilities
  • Debug and test new embedded products at the forefront of technology.
  • Keep current with embedded hardware trends and share knowledge.
  • Support and enhance existing embedded products.
  • Champion test automation for embedded products.
  • Apply established development processes and assist in process improvements.
  • Generate complete and accurate user and design documentation.
  • Provide input and evaluation of new technologies and products.
  • Contribute to the release of manufacturing technical data packages for products.
  • Participate in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or Technologist Diploma in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science (and/or equivalent experience).
  • Strong debug and problem-solving skills.
  • 10+ years Board level development and hands on lab experience (CO-OP Experience is applicable).
  • Be a driven and motivated self‑starter with a keen interest to learn.
  • Strong understanding of electronics and engineering principals and application to real world use.
  • Experience in test automation with Python.
  • Results‑oriented team player who leads by example, holds themselves accountable for performance, takes ownership of their responsibilities, and champions process improvement initiatives.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience working with a multi‑disciplined team.
  • Familiar with a product development process.
  • Familiar with hardware test equipment -- logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience in basic electronics, electronics testing & debugging.
  • Familiarity with principles of high‑speed digital circuit board design including signal integrity concepts.
  • Experience with CAD tools and/or test automation.
  • Experience with electronics soldering.
  • Hobby projects with Raspberry Pi/Arduino/Lab Jack.
  • Familiarity with VME, VPX, compact PCI, PMC/XMC mezzanines, PCIe, Rapid

    IO and VxWorks.
  • Scripting with Python.
