What will you be doing!- Problem solving is essential for supporting the improvement of safety across CNL. Must have the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
- Inductive reasoning, ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
- Analyzing data or information, identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
- Identifying objects, actions, and events: identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Using critical thinking, logic, and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Making recommendations and engaging in decision making.
- Contributing to the project through an Integrated Work Team model. Although their core subject expertise is in Occupational Health and Safety, it is expected that this role has a global understanding of all HSSE principles and how they work together to create a safe work plan for the project.
- Expressing ideas and opinions clearly and effectively through oral communication.
- Managing duties through efficient planning, time management, detail orientation, and prioritization.
- Partnering, seeking common goals, and collaborating with project teams and operational teams.
- Interacting with managers and directors to solicit advice and to promote implementation strategies.
- Engaging audience through presentation skills.
- Willing to occasionally travel, field work is a cornerstone activity in this role and infrequent travel for training and conferences.

- Education
- Licensed from a recognized institution in any of the following:
Industrial Electrician, electrical engineering, electronics engineering or “red seal” electrical trades equivalents. - Occupational Health and Safety Certificate/Degree along with CRSP or CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Professional and/or Technician) designation is desired. If no designation, then must be capable and willing to obtain within a reasonable time; and
- Will be required to take CNL Radiation Protection Group 3 training.
- Licensed from a recognized institution in any of the following:
- Experience
- Seven to Eight (7-8) years of safety related and relevant experience. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research/lab, industrial and highly technical environments.
- Minimum five (5) years of electrical safety experience involving industrial, research and development electrical applications, PLC programming, electronics, and robotics.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of pressure boundary systems and S&T’s pressure boundary program would be considered and asset.
- Knowledge of the Integrated Work Control process would be considered an asset.
- Ability to communicate in French would be considered an asset.
- Be able to function in an integrated work team model that brings together subject matter experts to create work plans for various projects.
- Demonstrates “safety first” attitude. Ensure activities are conducted with CNL, public and employee safety foremost in mind.
- Ability to maintain and grow safety knowledge including industry best practices and pending changes in legislation.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (active listening, oral expression/comprehension) and training/presentation skills.
- Resource, observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources:
- Physically fit, able to be physically active (standing, walking) for up to 7.5 hours a day. Able to manage stairs, ladders, and other egress equipment to enter all site and building areas including confined space. Able to use personal protective equipment including a respirator.
