Responsibilities- Leading the development of technical plans for the lifecycle management of radioactive waste.
- Leading the development of technical deliverables in support of the Integrated Waste Strategy, including waste characterization, processing, packaging, transportation, and disposal.
- Collaboratively developing plans that focus on safe, compliant, and effective management of nuclear liabilities while aligning with the CNL waste and fuel management mission.
- Performing comprehensive reviews and analysis of historical data from CNL sites, applying technical knowledge to make data-based recommendations with long-term impact on CNL operations and projects.
- Providing subject-matter expertise toward developing strategic and project plans for specific projects to ensure alignment with CNL’s Waste Strategy and identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Providing subject-matter expertise toward developing detailed Project Plans that include Project Management Plans, Work Plans, Scope Documents, Business Cases, technical reports, and Strategy Documents.
- Interfacing with planning and technical staff across CNL to meet Chalk River Laboratories’ needs coherently and integratively.
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to identify and leverage opportunities for technical partnerships and collaboration.
- Contributing to the growth of knowledge and technological advancements at CNL in radioactive waste management.
- Performing other duties as expected of a senior-level professional, as assigned by your manager, in support of the Integrated Waste and Fuel Programs mission across CNL sites.
- Education
- Bachelors (Honour) in Engineering or Science or membership in a relevant engineering/scientific professional organization.
- An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Science, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences is an asset.
- Advanced training or certification in project management is an asset.
- Experience
- Minimum of fifteen (15) to twenty (20) years of experience in the nuclear industry, with significant experience in radioactive waste management.
- Experience in strategy development and strategic planning for managing legacy nuclear liabilities.
- Experience in technical evaluations and planning for lifecycle management of radioactive waste.
- Experience as a technical authority making independent, responsible decisions.
- Experience in collecting, analyzing, and organizing complex data sets to make data-based recommendations.
- Experience in leading discrete projects across all project lifecycle phases.
- Experience in developing original, practical, and economical solutions.
- Experience in operations and/or field execution related to radioactive waste management is required.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication adaptable to different audiences.
- Ability to develop and implement credible, underpinned, and deliverable technical and project plans for complex environmental challenges.
- Ability to review highly technical information, evaluate options, and develop strategic and execution-level solutions.
- Ability to develop innovative and collaborative solutions with stakeholder engagement to build consensus.
- Expert-level understanding of the full lifecycle of radioactive waste for LLW, ILW, and HLW.
- Expert-level understanding of the Canadian nuclear industry, CNSC regulations, and projects/approaches by partner organizations.
- Well-developed understanding of nuclear decommissioning and environmental remediation processes and technologies.
- Well-developed understanding of project management principles and the lifecycle of multi-year projects.
