Tomlinson Group of Companies is currently seeking a detail-oriented Surveyor to join our Tomlinson Infrastructure team. The Surveyor will be responsible for conducting land surveys, analyzing data, and collaborating with the team to ensure the precision and success of construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, including experience with surveying equipment such as data collectors, lasers, total stations, and scanners.

Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with field crews, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-quality work are essential.

Location: Ottawa, ON

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform jobsite calibrations.
  • Utilize survey equipment to perform data collection and field layout for structures, roadways, services, and other features on the construction site.
  • Maintain accurate records of all surveying activities, including measurements, calculations, layouts, and as-builts.
  • Work closely with other teams, including engineers and construction professionals, to ensure that all survey requirements are met.
  • Ensure that all surveying activities are conducted safely and that all safety protocols are followed on construction sites.
  • Ensure that all surveying activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and building codes.
  • Perform quality control checks on tasks assigned, ensuring that layout is always accurate according to engineering proposed designs.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices.
  • Working Conditions:

  • Working mostly outdoors in various weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Working within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Occasional out-of-town work may be required.
  • Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction surveying.
  • A degree or diploma in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of surveying equipment including GPS rovers and data collectors, total stations, laser.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and blueprints.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Trimble Business Center is considered an asset.
  • Valid G-class driver's license.
  • Compensation Information:

  • The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 - $100,000. Placement within the range is dependant on a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
