We are on the hunt for a motivated and positive-minded Sr. Systems Engineer with experience developing and integrating Electronic Warfare (EW) systems to join our cross-functional, multi-disciplined team. As a member of the Engineering team, you will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customer.
Job descriptionThe Sr. Systems Engineer - Electronic Warfare (EW) Systems Engineer will work as part of a dynamic systems engineering team that will mature the EW system design and support procurement of EW subsystems through all design phases, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Integration, Set-to-Work and final acceptance trials. Excellent internal and external communication and leadership skills are necessary to work closely within our distributed team, our customer and their technical teams, our suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a blend of systems engineering discipline, EW systems knowledge and operational mission awareness, as well as understanding the customers' needs and potential options. Experience or background of the maritime and/or naval domain would be an asset. The successful candidate will be an integral part of an engineering team, under the direction of the Program Engineer, EW IPT Lead, and Systems Engineering Lead.
We are looking for people to be based in either Richmond B.C., Ottawa, ON, or Halifax, N.S. facilities.
Responsibilities- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary dispersed team
- Develop relationships with customers, contractors and subcontractors
- Support the EW supplier procurements through the subcontracts manager
- Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards, including system requirements, interface and design documents
- Domestic and/or international travel to support program needs
- Support the project team addressing design and integration issues
- Actively participate in program and test reviews
- Perform engineering functions for highly complex systems: support the development and allocation of system level requirements
- Review, develop and document system level operational concepts and mission statements
- Support the development and generation of documents such as design reports and technical deliverables
- Support the full scope of systems engineering lifecycle aspects including compatibility and interoperability, human factors, cyber-security, modelling and simulation, ILS, and verification and testing
- Model and simulate system performance and RF interference/integration into mission platform and other platform sensors
- Support system/product integration
- Verify and validate system designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements
- Experience working in a well-structured systems engineering team
- Experience in large electronic systems development or integration projects, preferably with electronic warfare systems, and a strong understanding of project execution processes from requirements through commissioning and support
- Experience maintaining close working relationships with other system engineers and customer representatives in a location distributed environment
- Excellent verbal and written communications and customer interaction skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Enthusiastic contributor, willing to learn new skills, and takes pride and ownership of work
- Experience with the design and development of electronic warfare systems, including environment qualification, human factors, and maritime certifications
- Knowledge of advanced antenna technologies and performance
- Ability to model antenna performance for received and transmitted signals
- Ability to analyze and model atmospheric propagation of RF signals
- Understanding of antenna patterns, polarization, bandwidth, beamwidth, etc.
- Understanding of the RF chain, including signal to noise ratio
- Understanding of radar and missile system employment and capabilities
- Understanding of radar and laser warning receivers and SIGINT sensors and countermeasure systems and signal processing techniques
- Highly proficient with MS Office applications
- Experience with engineering tools such as DOORS, Confluence/Jira and CAMEO
