Controls Systems Engineer/Systems Designer

Responsibilities- Design, configuration, and delivery of building control systems, including fire, HVAC, and other low-voltage systems, in alignment with project requirements.
- Bridge engineering design, system programming, and field installation to support successful project execution.
- Develop hardware and software designs, coordinate with project teams, and ensure system functionality meets customer and contract expectations.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and field teams to support project development, provide technical input (including value engineering and system optimization), and ensure designs are delivered accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Provide guidance to junior designers or technical support staff and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and processes.
- Design and configure building control systems (flow diagrams, sequences of operations, bill of materials, network layouts, electrical schematics).
- Develop, test, and implement software programs required to operate control systems in accordance with project requirements.
- Select hardware designs using established standards and libraries and ensure proper system integration.
- Coordinate preparation of drawings, equipment schedules, and submittal documentation.
- Select, order, and track materials to ensure timely delivery aligned with project schedules.
- Support system commissioning, including loading controllers, validating functionality, and troubleshooting issues.
- Incorporate field changes into as-built drawings and documentation.
- Assist with site-specific training for customers and end users on system operation.
- Participate in project meetings and provide updates on progress and technical issues.
- Perform value engineering to optimize cost-effective solutions.
- Ensure designs meet quality, safety, and compliance standards; adhere to Johnson Controls safety policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a diploma in Engineering Technology, Building Systems, or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in building automation systems, HVAC controls, fire systems, or related low-voltage systems.
- Knowledge of control theory, automatic temperature controls, and system integration protocols such as BACnet or LON.
- Experience with system design tools, drafting software, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot, commission, and validate complex systems.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and relevant engineering/design software.
- Proficiency in both English and French is considered a strong asset.
Hiring hourly range: Hourly rate to be determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, internal equity, and market data. This position includes a competitive benefits package. Salary ranges may be adjusted for exceptional candidates.
