Job Description & How to Apply Below

Our Stantec Buildings Group provides services across all phases of the project life cycle, from pre‑project planning and strategic studies through detailed design support, construction, operations, and long‑term asset planning. This is where technically rigorous, forward‑looking solutions are developed to support our clients’ most complex challenges.

Working collaboratively across disciplines, our team delivers integrated sustainability and building performance consulting services for projects in healthcare, industrial facilities, education, civic, commercial, aviation, and large‑scale developments. Our focus is on helping clients make informed decisions around energy systems, low‑carbon pathways, and long‑term building performance, grounded in strong engineering fundamentals.

An opportunity exists in Stantec’s Ottawa, ON office for a Senior Sustainability Consultant with a mechanical engineering background to join our multidisciplinary team. In this role, you will apply your mechanical engineering expertise to support sustainability and energy consulting services, supporting projects through analysis, strategy development, and technical advisory.

As the successful candidate, your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing senior technical advisory services on building energy systems, leveraging a mechanical engineering background to support sustainability and performance‑driven decision making.
  • Leading or supporting energy, electrification, and decarbonization studies for new and existing buildings, campuses, and portfolios.
  • Evaluating mechanical system options from a performance, constructability, and lifecycle perspective, including heat pumps, central plants, district energy, and hybrid systems.
  • Preparing technical reports, feasibility studies, and advisory memos that translate complex engineering concepts into clear recommendations for clients and project teams.
  • Supporting early‑stage concept development in collaboration with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and planning teams.
  • Reviewing mechanical designs and system strategies to ensure alignment with project energy and performance objectives (without serving as the discipline designer or EOR).
  • Contributing to energy master planning, retrofit planning, and system transition studies for complex facilities.
  • Collaborating closely with project managers and discipline leads to integrating sustainability and energy analysis into project delivery.
  • Mentoring junior sustainability and engineering staff, providing guidance on system analysis, technical writing, and study methodologies.
  • Supporting proposals, client discussions, and pursuit efforts related to sustainability and building performance services.
