:We are seeking a part-time professor to teach SED
1513:
Introduction to Engineering and its Impact on Society for students in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design program at the Faculty of Engineering, School of Engineering Design and Teaching Innovation, University of Ottawa. This course, delivered in French, provides a broad introduction to the nature of engineering and examines its ethical, societal, and environmental implications, as well as the roles of different engineering disciplines in addressing major societal challenges.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and deliver engaging lectures and tutorials on the fundamentals of engineering and its impact on society
• Introduce students to various engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, chemical, electrical, computer, and software) and their sub-disciplines
• Facilitate discussions and activities on ethical considerations, societal and environmental impacts of technology, and the responsibilities of engineers
• Guide students in exploring the interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of engineering practice
• Lead case studies and projects focused on grand challenges facing society and the role of engineers in addressing them
• Assess student performance through assignments, presentations, and reflective exercises
• Provide constructive feedback to support student learning and critical thinking
• Hold office hours to assist students outside of class time

Requirements:
Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Engineering Education, or a related field
• Fluency in French (written and spoken)
• Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level
• Strong understanding of engineering disciplines, ethics, and the societal and
environmental impacts of technology
• Ability to foster interdisciplinary thinking and collaboration among students
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teaching or research
• Familiarity with engineering ethics, sustainability, or the societal impacts of technology
• Experience leading discussions or projects on grand challenges in engineering and society
Please note that this position requires teaching in French.
