RoleBGC is seeking an Intermediate Geotechnical or Geological Engineer with experience in tailings management and tailings dam site investigation, design, instrumentation analyses, and construction support. The engineer will work in a multidisciplinary team, leading tasks related to dam design, dam performance assessments, and construction. The ideal candidate has a fundamental understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and will contribute to projects within a multinational engineering firm, upholding BGC values of One Team, Excellence, Curiosity, Common Sense, and Clarity.
Responsibilities- Act as a project engineer and technical lead under the direction of the Engineer of Record for tailings projects
- Train, mentor, and supervise the technical work of junior staff
- Manage projects, prepare proposals, and track budgets
- Author or co-author reports
- Organize and supervise field programs, including site investigation, construction monitoring, and dam safety inspections
- Work with client representatives
- Help promote BGC vision, values and culture amongst BGC staff
- Travel as required, which could include extended shifts at remote sites
- Undergraduate degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as a professional engineer
- 5–10 years of relevant work experience in:
- Tailings management
- Tailings dam site investigation, design, or construction support
- Fly Matrix M300 RTK drone for photogrammetry surveys
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient in the use of Geostudio, Global Mapper, Open Ground, and Cambio TM
- Drug and alcohol testing policy applicable to field work; testing may occur during onboarding or as required by clients or safety requirements
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a field pickup truck; a driver’s abstract may be requested for safety review
- Travel and vaccination considerations; a current passport is required; vaccination requirements may apply for travel to client sites
