Responsibilities
- Support Waste Processing Technologies Section research projects by assembling bench‑scale setups, performing chemical sample analysis, and documenting experimental results.
- Conduct routine laboratory operations, including operating instruments, recording data, calibrating equipment, and ensuring quality assurance.
- Follow safety procedures, maintain housekeeping standards, and coordinate waste disposal.
- Set up experimental and production facilities for R&D and commercial projects, ensuring clear communication in oral and written formats.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Education:
- Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in Chemical Technology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or equivalent formal education plus relevant experience.
- Or secondary school diploma with more than 3 years of relevant experience, plus additional education or training.
- Experience:
- Experience in chemical laboratory practices and safety procedures.
- Some chemical engineering laboratory operational experience.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Experience assembling bench‑scale experimental setups and rigs.
- Technical writing skills and ability to design experiments under supervision.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical/experimental problems and make safety‑focused decisions.
- Knowledge of QA requirements for R&D activities and chemical analysis techniques.
- Security Clearance Eligibility: Reliability status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC). Minimum 3‑5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, or the United Kingdom. Eligibility for security screening per Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat standards.
- Five (5) days per week, 7.5 hours per day for a 37.5‑hour work week.
- Work is part of the USW 1568 UNION under the Collective Agreement.
- Laboratory chemistry experiments, office computer work, and engineering development work.
- Possibility of heavy lifting when handling engineering‑scale equipment and materials.
On‑site at the Chalk River Laboratory in Ontario, Canada.
