We're partnering with a well-established consulting engineering firm that is looking to add a Commissioning Engineer to its growing Ottawa team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer or building systems professional who wants to develop their career within the commissioning and building performance space, while gaining exposure to a diverse portfolio of commercial, institutional, healthcare, and other complex building projects.

The Role:
You'll be involved throughout the building lifecycle, working closely with owners, architects, contractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders to ensure building systems are designed, installed, tested, and operating as intended.
You'll have the opportunity to work on both new construction and existing-building projects, giving you exposure to a wide range of mechanical and building systems and the opportunity to develop a well-rounded commissioning skill set.
What You'll Do- Lead and support commissioning activities for commercial, institutional, healthcare, and other building projects.
- Review mechanical and building system designs to identify potential issues and commissioning requirements.
- Develop and review commissioning plans, specifications, reports, and documentation.
- Perform functional testing and verification of HVAC and building systems.
- Review equipment operation, controls sequences, and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Conduct site visits and inspections throughout construction and commissioning.
- Work with contractors and consultants to identify deficiencies and develop solutions.
- Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
- Support existing-building commissioning and building performance assessments.
- Identify opportunities for improved energy efficiency and building performance.
- Work directly with clients and project stakeholders to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Assist with energy modelling, energy assessments, and sustainability initiatives where applicable.
- Develop strong relationships with clients, contractors, and consulting teams.
- Take increasing ownership of projects as your experience develops.
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of Industry experience
- Experience with in building mechanical systems, HVAC, controls, energy management, or commissioning.
- Experience with commercial, institutional, healthcare, or other building projects.
- Understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and Building Automation Systems.
- Strong understanding of building mechanical systems and how they operate together.
- Experience conducting site reviews, inspections, testing, or troubleshooting is an asset.
- P.Eng., or CET, or eligibility for professional registration is an asset.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working directly with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to collaborate and ask questions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Interest in developing a long-term career within commissioning, building performance, and energy efficiency.
