Are you ready to lead and influence critical safety initiatives within a dynamic organization focused on nuclear decommissioning, site remediation, and waste management? Our Chalk River location is seeking a Certified Industrial Hygienist to help advance Industrial Hygiene activities within the Decommissioning and Waste Management (DWM) organization.
Whatwill you be doing!
- Providing leadership oversight of Industrial Hygiene (IH) activities to ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable legislation, company programs, procedures and work specific documentation.
- Supporting the development, review, implementation, and monitoring of task and project specific IH programs, work plans, risk registers, and management system components.
- Identifying, assessing, and evaluating physical, biological, and chemical hazards associated with DWM projects and operations.
- Directing, implementing, and monitoring engineering controls, administrative controls, work practices, personal protective equipment and clothing (PPE&C), and respiratory protection devices to eliminate or reduce worker exposures.
- Acting as a subject matter expert (SME) for Industrial Hygiene within the DWM OSH team.
- Conducting IH audits, inspections, and site assessments to evaluate compliance with programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Providing training, mentoring, coaching, and apprenticeship support to IH staff to ensure quality, consistency, and professional development.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Education
- Minimum Honours Bachelor’s Science Degree, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Degree or related disciplines from a university of recognized standing. (i.e., Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology or Applied Science).
- Membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) designation. If no designation, then must be capable and willing to obtain within a reasonable period of time.
- Experience
- Minimum of six years of experience in industrial/occupational hygiene, preferably in the environment remediation, nuclear or chemical sectors.
- Experience in developing occupational health and industrial hygiene programs and procedures.
- Good understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, in both federal and provincial jurisdictions.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced level of computer skills desired with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to write technical reports.
- Ability to coach, mentor, train and develop personnel on IH practices.
- Exceptional ability to solve problems through soft and hard analytical skills.
- Ability to present recommendations, complete regulatory reporting and technical writing in a clear and effective manner.
- Ability to understand and interpret statistics and performance metrics.
- Extensive knowledge in occupational health and industrial hygiene standards, guidelines and best practices from the Federal and Ontario (or other provincial) government.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
