Job Overview
Insight Global is seeking an experienced Heat Transfer Subject Matter Expert to provide engineering-domain leadership and validation throughout Honeywell Technologies’ UHX application modernization.
This individual will serve as the bridge between the engineering science embedded within the legacy application and the technology team responsible for modernizing it.
The Heat Transfer SME will help ensure that modernization changes do not unintentionally alter engineering calculations, assumptions, workflows, or outputs. This individual will work closely with the Technical Lead / Solution Architect, .NET Developers, React Developers, QA Automation Engineer, and Honeywell engineering stakeholders.
The successful candidate will possess deep expertise in heat transfer principles, thermal analysis, heat exchanger design methodologies, and engineering calculation workflows.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the primary heat‑transfer and thermal‑engineering SME for the modernization team.
- Analyze calculations, engineering workflows, formulas, assumptions, and outputs within the legacy application.
- Explain existing engineering workflows and calculation methodologies to the software‑development team.
- Partner with the Technical Lead and developers to translate domain logic into clear functional and technical requirements.
- Validate the functional equivalence of engineering calculations following modernization.
- Provide expertise across:o Heat exchanger designo Heat‑transfer calculation so Thermal systems analysiso Thermodynamic so Fluid flowo Pressure‑drop calculation so Thermal‑performance analysiso Mechanical and process equipment design
- Participate in discovery workshops to document current‑state functionality.
- Identify undocumented calculations, dependencies, assumptions, and business‑critical engineering logic.
- Establish expected engineering outputs and acceptance criteria.
- Partner with the QA Automation Engineer to develop engineering‑specific test scenarios.
- Analyze differences between legacy and modernized calculation results.
- Support root‑cause analysis when application results differ.
- Review modernized application workflows for alignment with established engineering practices.
- Review user‑interface changes to ensure they continue to support engineering activities.
- Support user acceptance testing, demonstrations, and technical sign‑off.
- Document calculation methodologies, assumptions, validation requirements, and expected outcomes.
- Help preserve institutional engineering knowledge throughout the modernization effort.
- Identify opportunities for future process or application improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in heat transfer, thermal analysis, or heat exchanger design.
- Deep knowledge of:o Conductiono Convectiono Radiationo Thermodynamic so Fluid mechanicso Heat exchanger performance
- Experience working with engineering calculation, design, or simulation software.
- Ability to review equations, algorithms, calculation approaches, and technical outputs.
- Experience reviewing and validating complex engineering calculations.
- Experience communicating complex engineering principles to software‑development teams.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and technical‑documentation skills.
- Ability to distinguish software defects from engineering methodology or input issues.
- Experience participating in technical reviews and engineering validation activities.
