Responsibilities

The Technical Director (TD), Fourth Stage is responsible for efficient operation of all technical aspects of acts created, mounted or presented at the NAC Fourth Stage. The TD will report to the Executive Director of Production and the Production Manager. Responsibilities include managing resources to ensure that all performances and productions load in, run, and load out on time and on budget.

The TD oversees the technical realization of performances and productions on the Fourth Stage; supports visiting and emerging artists and touring acts in addressing technical and logistical requirements; and collaborates with the broader technical team to ensure high‑quality, efficiently produced shows across all NAC stages. The TD works across all genres of live musical and artistic performances and supports the development of emerging artistic talent.

Skill

Requirements
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role
  • Familiarity with all aspects of technical production across all genres of live performance
  • Experience in technical production for live music events, conferences, and other productions
  • Thorough knowledge of stage lighting, audio, video, rigging and special effects
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and fostering emerging artists
  • Experience in leading and supervising crews in a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulations and working conditions of performers unions (CAEA, ADC, AFM, UDA, APASQ, etc.)
  • Ability to create technical drawings used in the planning of stage presentations
  • Experience in scheduling and budgeting live events
  • Experience in estimating related equipment and labour
  • Thorough knowledge of codes and regulations that apply in a live entertainment environment, as well as best practices in health and safety
  • Capacity to work effectively with artists, clients and colleagues with diverse experience and skill level
  • Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule to meet business needs (evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays)
  • Exceptional computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, AutoCAD LT or Vector Works, and Q‑Lab
  • Fluently bilingual in both official languages, English and French, written and spoken
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license is an asset
  • Certification in Fall Arrest, Forklift Operation, Aerial Platform Operation or ability to acquire within three months of hiring
  • Pyrotechnics Certificate, Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence are an asset
