AboutThe Role
At CMHC, you’ll serve as a Bilingual Multi‑Unit Underwriter I, responsible for analyzing mortgage insurance applications for 5‑24‑unit properties, applying commercial underwriting principles and crafting tailored recommendations.
What You’ll Do- Conduct detailed multi‑residential risk assessments for mortgage insurance applications.
- Perform program, product, financial, legal, property, market, borrower and loan‑level reviews.
- Assess third‑party property appraisal reports and provide recommendations.
- Derive insurance risk recommendations and mitigation options aligned with CMHC’s risk appetite.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Build and maintain quality relationships with clients.
- Collaborate within the team to enhance service standards and turnaround times.
- Engage internal support functions (legal, policy, operations, borrower analysis) for clarification and concurrence.
- Undergraduate degree in real‑estate, business administration, accounting, finance or commerce, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years experience in real‑estate underwriting, financing, credit risk or financial analysis.
- Strong financial analysis skills and ability to interpret financial statements.
- Analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication in both French and English.
- Interpersonal skills to build and maintain stakeholder relationships.
- Organization, detail orientation, time‑management and performance under pressure.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience in property management, real‑estate appraisal, property inspection or real‑estate law.
- Professional designations such as Chartered Appraiser (OEAQ or AACI), DAR designation, CFA, CPA or similar.
