Responsibilities- Apply a risk-based approach for identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial crimes risks in business relationships and transactions.
- Follow established policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure a consistent and systematic approach to managing financial crimes risks.
- Effectively communicate risk mitigation strategies to business teams and decision-making committees, both verbally and in writing.
- Lead the development and implementation of effective due diligence and risk mitigation practices in line with international industry standards, with a continuous improvement approach.
- Lead initiatives aimed at raising awareness about financial crimes risks, both internally and externally.
- Manage internal relationships such as Underwriting, Legal, Policy and external relationships such as Canadian exporters and international buyers.
- Conduct research using primary data sources and select information needed for Financial Crimes analysis within transactions or at the counter party level.
- Review the risk management system and controls of counter parties and other mitigating factors and assess the Financial Crimes residual risk.
- Lead Financial Crimes risk analysis for business transactions and relationships, presenting summarized findings and recommendations to business teams and management committees.
- Build effective working relationships within the team and internal client organization, delivering high-quality Financial Crimes Risk Management services.
- Communicate effectively with EDC customers and external audiences regarding EDC’s approach to managing Financial Crimes risks.
- Develop capabilities through development planning activities and training; pursue external professional accreditation where relevant.
- Maintain an understanding of trends and industry best practices in Financial Crimes Risk Management through ongoing education.
- Oversight of colleagues’ work in accordance with policies and job aids, providing feedback.
- Provide advice on interpretation and application of policies, procedures, programs and/or products, resolving queries.
- Raise observations or gaps related to technical risk issues or inefficient processes; propose solutions to improve assessment quality or processes.
- Apply a customer lens to work and consider impacts of non-credit findings on decision-making; use sound judgement when needed.
- University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Law, Political Science, or related field.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience (FC Risk Management 17) or 7 years’ experience (Risk Management 18) in Financial Crimes Enhanced Due Diligence, especially Anti-Bribery & Corruption and Sanctions; experience in designing or managing Compliance and Ethics programs, Third-Party/Vendor Screening, and Customer Onboarding programs.
- Knowledge of best practices in ABC and Sanctions Compliance Programs, including Code of Conduct, Global Sanctions and related policies, risk assessments, training, third-party due diligence, monitoring, and reporting.
- Experience in preparing written reports on financial crime risks for high-risk relationships/transactions and presenting recommendations to senior management; familiarity with incident/issue management in this context.
- Ability to adapt risk management and financial crime principles to complex transactions and customer needs.
- Familiarity with Anti-Corruption/Sanctions clauses in contracts.
- Knowledge of Canadian and international anti-corruption, AML/CTF and sanctions regulations (CFPOA, PCMLTFA, and related regimes).
- Strong written and verbal communication and influencing skills; experience presenting to senior management.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
