The Canadian Senators Group (CSG) is a unique group of independent thinkers in the Senate of Canada, united in their approach to the role of Senators. Founded on the principles of regional representation, diversity of political views, and rigorous research, the CSG is at the heart of a modernizing Senate.

We are seeking a Deputy Chief of Staff, Procedure and Parliamentary Affairs to join the Leader’s Office in Ottawa on a full-time basis.

In This Role, You Will
  • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the CSG’s unique digital scroll, ensuring the leadership team is well prepared and informed for Senate sittings;
  • Support the Deputy Leader in the planning, coordination, and execution of the CSG’s daily preparation for Senate sittings;
  • Play a key role in advancing collaborative relationships with other Caucus or Groups in matters of procedure and parliamentary affairs, by assuming an effective interface on matters of importance and gaining an understanding of critical positions;
  • Provide regular high-quality information, strategic advice, and procedural support to the CSG Leader and Deputy Leader;
  • Maintain close collaboration with and effective communication between the Leader’s Office, Deputy Leader’s Office, and the CSG leadership team;
  • Collaborate closely with senior CSG staff to support debate preparation and legislative strategy and day-to-day functions of the CSG Leader’s office.

This position is well suited to a candidate with deep expertise in complex legislative processes and substantial experience in political affairs. The successful applicant will have a proven record in leading political strategy, a strong understanding of Canada’s current political landscape, and the foresight to anticipate emerging regional and national developments. The incumbent will be able to adapt quickly to a fast-evolving agenda, demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and discretion, and be available to work flexible hours as required.

Candidates with prior experience in the Senate or the House of Commons are also encouraged to apply for this indeterminate full-time position in the Office of the Leader, Canadian Senators Group (CSG).

Please note that “indeterminate” refers to an employment contract with no specified end date.

Prerequisites
  • University degree from a recognized institution in a relevant field related to the duties of the position and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
  • Experience providing strategic guidance, advice, briefings, and recommendations to senior political leaders or officials;
  • Extensive knowledge of the Canadian federal legislative process, the Rules and Procedures of the Senate, and other key laws, policies, and guidelines related to parliamentary procedure and practice;
  • Proven experience reviewing and analyzing complex, sensitive, and time-sensitive documentation for senior political leaders or officials;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
