Work environment Established in 2007 under the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act, the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada (the Office) is an independent organization that strengthens accountability in the federal public sector. It investigates and exposes major wrongdoing through reports to Parliament, and investigates complaints of reprisal.

Intent of the process The initial intent of this process is to offer one secondment (at level) or a term appointment (specified period contract). In the event that a secondment at level is not possible, management may consider an acting appointment. A pool of qualified persons resulting from this process will be created and may be used to fill similar positions with linguistic profiles bilingual imperative CBC/CBC as well as tenures (indeterminate, deployment, acting, assignment, secondment, specified period) which may vary according to the position being staffed.

This pool may be used to staff similar positions in other organizations within the core public administration. By applying to this process, you consent to your personal application-related information being shared with other government departments interested in staffing similar positions.

  • An assignment, secondment, or acting appointment requires approval of your supervisor.
  • Indeterminate employees at the same group and level or equivalent will be considered for deployment. If no deployment is made, applicants from other groups and levels will be considered in the advertised appointment process.
  • As an acting appointment of four months or more is an Appointment under the Public Service Employment Act you are required to meet the linguistic profile of the position.
  • All of the information collected during the selection process, including behaviour and communication, from the time of application until the end of the process, may be used to evaluate candidates.

In accordance with the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) Guidance on Prescribed Presence in the workplace, the Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada (PSIC) requires presence in the office a minimum of three (3) days per week. PSIC employees may be required to work in the office up to five (5) days per week for operational reasons. Willingness and ability to work overtime on short notice.

Education
  • ED1: A bachelor of law degree (LLB) or equivalent (Law Licence LL.L., Juris Doctor J.D.).
Occupational Certification
  • CERT1: A member in good standing in the Bar of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
Experience
  • EX1:
    Significant experience providing legal services as counsel in one or more of the following areas of law: administrative law, employment law or labour law.
  • EX2:
    Experience providing legal advice in regard to workplace investigations or similar procedures in or relating to the federal public sector.
