Position: Diabetes Educator - Registered Dietitian/Registered Nurse (Bilingual - French)

Our 50+ endocrinologists, many of whom are nationally renowned for their areas of expertise, are supported by an interdisciplinary team of highly qualified professionals.

We are looking for a Diabetes Educator (Registered Dietitian or Registered Nurse) to work on a permanent full‑time basis at our Ottawa location (4100 Strand herd Drive, Suite 208, Ottawa, ON).

Responsibilities
  • Educate and advise patients on self‑management skills in both individual and group settings, focusing primarily on diabetes and secondarily on other health conditions such as general health and metabolic conditions (weight management & obesity).
  • Develop patient care plans and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team as needed.
  • Complete detailed patient encounters within the EMR system.
  • Teach insulin administration, including titration and management, as per medical directives (for applicable patients).
  • Teach self‑monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) as per medical directives.
  • Perform patient follow‑ups in person or remotely (email, telephone, video).
  • Obtain relevant health history of patients.
  • Provide consultation as requested to community groups, partners, and team members.
  • Train additional staff and any new educators as required.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Employ information technology appropriately for patient care (e.g., statistical tracking).
  • Stay current and aware of opportunities to implement new, evidence‑based methods of patient assessment and treatment.
  • Assist with research studies as needed, including providing diet counseling for patients enrolled in research studies.
  • Teach evening virtual workshops as required.
  • Complete a minimum of two community outreach events annually.
  • Make annual outreach calls.
  • Assist with program implementation, which includes reviewing patient charts, entering data, and following program guidelines.
  • Perform administrative tasks (delegable to staff, volunteers, or interns), such as rescheduling appointments, creating workshop folders, ordering supplies & medications, tracking patient visits, and entering data for programs.
  • Participate in Journal Clubs and other group learning opportunities.
  • Disseminate the program vision.
  • Promote non‑ministry funded LMC initiatives, including paid and non‑paid services.

Education / Experience
  • Bilingual competency in English and French is an asset.
  • A valid RD license in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Experience teaching or counseling individuals and groups.
  • Must be obtaining or working toward a CDE designation.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and have access to a personal vehicle.
  • Experience in motivational interviewing and other evidence‑based coaching techniques is an asset.
  • Health coaching experience is welcomed, or openness to training as a health coach.

Compensation range
:
The expected compensation for the position is $59K–$84K annually, based on credentials, experience, and geographic location.
