** The Decontamination Helper performs general custodial and janitorial work in active areas. May be required to perform general decontamination work as well as specific cleaning and disinfecting work in active area, handling and packaging of radioactive waste from all work areas in the active area and maintains general supplies.
**** Key Responsibilities
** Will be required to carry out, under guidance and supervision, some or all of the following duties:
* Works independently to perform general custodial and janitorial duties in active area, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, waxing and stripping when necessary, of all designated areas.
* Performs general decontamination work as directed ‐ to include decontamination of equipment, facilities, surfaces, tools and packaging.
* Removes radioactive waste from various facilities, and packages it for disposal.
* Provides assistance to Environmental Health and Safety, Quality Control and Production groups in radiation decontamination duties, contamination control and waste disposal trailer loading.
* Maintains janitorial supplies and supply cupboard.
* Does laundry within active area.
* Warehouse pickup of supplies.
* Handles, Packages, assembles and moves product components and customer orders
* Other related duties as required.
** Qualifications
* * Must have Grade XII or appropriate experience.
** Skills and Competencies
*** Must be familiar with operating radiation detecting devices.
* Must be able to read, recharge and record readings of direct reading dosimeters.
* Must be able to maintain simple records.
* Must become familiar with all safety procedures.
* Must be able to lift heavy objects.
* Must have the temperament necessary for active area work and realize the consequences of working with potentially radioactive or contaminated material.
* Must be capable of operating heavy moving equipment.
* Good oral communication skills
* Able to record and document work performed
* Capable of operating all relevant computer systems
** Additional Requirements
** Under the direction of the Senior Radiation and Contamination Monitor and/or Radiation and Contamination Monitor:
* Will be required to make routine measurements and reports within the Department.
* On detection of a radiation hazard, it must be reported to Supervision, Radiation and Contamination Monitor or a Radiation Surveyor.
* May be involved in emergency situations involving radiation and /or contamination.
* Required to  wear respirator and other safety equipment when required.
* Expected to work overtime/ shift work/call‐ins as required.
* May be called in at all off‐hours to respond to unusual incidents.
* Must keep responsibility areas neat and clean.
** Training Required
** Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
