Project Lead, Trauma Informed Care - Temporary Full-Time

The Lead, Trauma-Informed Care, provides expertise, facilitation, and strategic guidance to establish CHEO’s Trauma-Informed Care approach and practices. The Lead is responsible for understanding the organizational landscape, identifying strengths, gaps, opportunities, and risks, and translating these insights into a prioritized Trauma-Informed Care roadmap, change-readiness and implementation plan. The Lead engages with staff, medical staff, patients, family, and community perspectives to co-define a meaningful approach.

A recognized expert in Trauma-Informed Care, the Lead builds a plan and consistently models Trauma-Informed Care principles in all interactions, demonstrating safety, trust, collaboration, choice, and empowerment when engaging with staff, medical staff, patients, families, leaders, and partners. Acting as a bridge between organizational leadership, enabling partners, and people with lived experience, the Lead ensures recommendations are practical, aligned with organizational priorities, and grounded in equity and cultural safety.

• Conduct an organization-wide assessment of Trauma-Informed and responsive practices, including policies, workflows, education, physical spaces, and culture
• Analyze current initiatives and programs to identify alignment, duplication, gaps, and opportunities related to Trauma-Informed Care
• Integrate staff, medical staff, patient, family, and community experiences to inform findings and recommendations
• Develop a multi-year Trauma-Informed Care roadmap, including tiered implementation options (from low-resource, incremental approaches to fully resourced, accelerated implementation), with associated dependencies, costs, benefits, risks, and readiness considerations
• Identify and support advancement of near-term or low-resource opportunities that could be leveraged ahead of full implementation
• Develop recommendations for governance, accountability, resourcing, and success measures or evaluation frameworks to support future sustainability
• Provide expert consultation and coaching to leaders and teams to build understanding of Trauma-Informed Care principles
• Facilitate working groups, advisory groups, or engagement sessions to inform assessments and roadmap development
• Collaborate with enabling partners (e.g., I‑IDEAS, Safety & Family Partnership, OD&L, Occupational Health) to inform recommendations
• Prepare executive-level reports, decision briefs, and recommendations to support funding and implementation decisions
• Identify barriers and risks to Trauma-Informed practice and propose mitigation strategies

• Bachelor’s degree in a related health discipline and professional clinical designation (Essential)
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a healthcare setting (Essential)
• Expertise in Trauma-Informed Care such as advanced academic research in Trauma-Informed Care practices and their application, specialized training in Trauma-Informed Care, or a combination of education and experience working in a Trauma-Informed Care environment (Essential)
• Demonstrated experience in organizational assessments & program development,
• Experience leading complex implementation or change initiatives involving entire organizations or multiple teams and disciplines (Essential)
• Understanding of and experience working with anti-racist, anti-oppressive and culturally safe approaches, and in creating safe and inclusive environments (Essential)
• Strong understanding of Indigenous perspectives, cultures, and traditions, including approaches to health and well-being (Essential)
• Comfort and skill in navigating sensitive situations, including managing trauma disclosures and supporting individuals or groups when trauma may be activated (Essential)
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse partners, including healthcare providers, community organizations, and people with lived experience (Essential)
