The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech language therapy services to CHEO patients in homes, schools and other areas as needed, through conducting clinical assessments, and developing treatment plans and goals, in consultation with the patient, family and other interdisciplinary team members, in accordance with the standards of the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). The Speech-Language Pathologist provides recommendations for follow-up and management of the patient’s condition.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will support the School-Based Rehabilitation Service (SBRS), providing assessment and/or treatment for children 4 to 21 years of age. The Speech-Language Pathologist will support CHEO’s School-Based Rehabilitation Services (SBRS) Program by providing care in a variety of settings including in schools, CHEO sites, various community sites, virtual and other settings, as needed. The Speech-Language Pathologist will support the SBRS program across the entire Champlain region of Eastern Ontario and must be willing and able to travel long distances independently on a daily basis as needed.

• Completes assessments of patients in a variety of treatment settings including private homes and schools, CHEO sites, community sites and others and performs an analysis based on objective, subjective and functional findings.
• Establishes realistic, measurable and time limited treatment goals and develops treatment plan.
• Ensures that speech-language therapy treatments are initiated with the informed consent of the patient or substitute decision maker in accordance with the Health Care Consent Act.
• Provides direct treatment and/or support and teaching to informal caregivers, school personnel and other health care professionals involved.
• Participates in case conferences when required and consults with other members of the health care team in fostering a holistic approach to care.
