Overview

About the role:

The ship integration team is seeking a student in a co‑op education program to help deliver key initiatives for the group. The role involves streamlining processes, automating steps using reporting and data‑collection tools, extracting data from multiple sources, transforming and consolidating it, prototyping a status reporting/dashboard, setting up a database structure, prepopulating initial data for demonstration, designing and implementing a user interface to query the database, and documenting and presenting the tool to the team and management.

The program would be executed using an AGILE approach.

Responsibilities
  • Streamline processes and automate steps using reporting and data‑collection tools
  • Extract data from multiple sources, transform it and consolidate it
  • Prototype a status reporting/dashboard proof‑of‑concept reporting tool
  • Set up a database structure for the various datasets
  • Prepopulate the database with initial data for demonstration purposes
  • Design and implement a user interface allowing users to query the database and run queries
  • Document and present the tool to the team and management
  • Contribute to proposal documents to transition the proof of concept into a funded program
Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled student in a computer science or related education program
  • Database developer skills: knowledge of physical database design and data structures; knowledge of database objects including tables, indexes, views and statistics; proficiency in SQL with the ability to write complex queries and functions
  • Scripting skills:
    Excel, VBA, Python or Perl
  • Availability for a four‑month period starting September 2026
  • Ability to obtain NATO Secret security clearance in a timely manner
  • Additional desired skills: valid security clearance
  • Results‑oriented attitude and initiative
  • Language requirements (Québec):
    Knowledge of English is required; ability to communicate with a virtual team outside Québec and with organization members, clients and suppliers located outside Canada
  • For engineering roles, ability to read or edit technical documents from primary clients and prepare technical documents for those clients
