Job Description
General Dynamics Mission Systems Canada is seeking a full‑time Operations Support role to provide technical support and troubleshooting for the DND Satellite Communications Operations Centre (SOC). This position is located in downtown Ottawa.
Responsibilities- Logging and processing of technical events and/or generation of incident reports
- Assist clients with minor troubleshooting and modem configurations
- Process Satellite Access Requests and validate and implement Satellite Access Authorisations
- Answer SOC phone, e‑mail, and chat messages
- Coordinate satellite access and de‑access activities with DND operational units
- Provide on‑the‑job training for new SOC operators
- Perform shift hand‑over briefings
- Collect and process post‑mission information
- Produce weekly/monthly reports
- Remote monitor and control of Satellite Anchor Stations
- Two or three year college diploma as a technologist and/or equivalent experience, specialising in electronics or telecommunications
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers at various authoritative levels
- Ability to troubleshoot using initiative and judgement, applying knowledge gained from prior experience
- Flexibility and rapid, knowledgeable response to technical and customer‑service related issues
- Good appreciation of the customer’s facility, methods of operation, and sensitivities
- Knowledge and skill in using computer desktop applications (Microsoft Office tools)
- Previous Canadian Forces experience or working in a military environment
- Experience with commercial and/or military SATCOM networks
- Experience with large terrestrial SATCOM terminals
General Dynamics Mission Systems – Canada is registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program; all employees must be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Additional security requirements may be necessary for access to technical data, classified areas or information subject to international regulations.
