Senior Analytics Engineer

About the Role

This is the first Data Engineer hire at Knak, responsible for building the foundational data infrastructure and AI enablement strategy. You will architect and own the governed Snowflake query layer, including per‑department views, PII scrubbing logic, schema documentation, and connection standards. The role is senior, IC, and focuses on architectural ownership rather than maintenance. You will collaborate with the Director of Data & Analytics, department leaders, and Dev Ops to scope, prioritize, and implement the data layer that supports AI champions and downstream analytics.

• Enable the AI Champion Program by unblocking governed Snowflake access for projects across Customer Success, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Security.
• Design, build, and maintain read‑only Snowflake views for product usage, customer accounts, pipeline, revenue, and behavioral signals, with defined refresh cadence and access boundaries.
• Define connection standards for AI agents and applications, publishing authentication, rate limiting, error handling, and deployment paths.
• Encode PII scrubbing and compliance as code, translating policy decisions into view logic and validating with Security.
• Document the warehouse with schema docs detailing fields, relationships, and exclusions.
• Modernize the analytics codebase, converting ad‑hoc SQL into version‑controlled, tested models with dbt (or equivalent) and CI pipelines.
• Support Tableau and Mixpanel layers, owning data contracts and upstream pipelines for dashboards such as the Product Analytics workbook and the MAA/MAU time‑series.
• Set technical direction, establish patterns and standards, lead code review, mentor analysts, and represent the data team in architecture discussions.

• 5+ years building production analytics systems on a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake preferred; Big Query, Redshift, or Databricks transferable).
• Deep SQL fluency, with experience reading and writing complex stored procedures, CTEs, window functions, and production exception handling.
• Demonstrated ownership of a data governance layer, including role‑based access, view‑level scrubbing, or row‑level security at meaningful scale.
• Production experience with a transformation framework (dbt, SQLMesh, or equivalent) and version control discipline (Git, code review, CI for SQL).
• Understanding of BI and product analytics tools (Tableau, Looker, Mode, Mixpanel, or similar) and ability to anticipate upstream decisions on downstream dashboards.
• Track record of mentoring and influencing peers, with specific examples of adopted design decisions.
• Strong written communication skills for schema documentation, design docs, and decision records.

• Experience with Fivetran or similar ELT tooling, especially AWS, MySQL, Salesforce, Linked In Ads, and product event sources.
• Experience supporting AI agents or LLM applications as data consumers, including connection patterns, rate limits, and prompt‑safe data shaping.
• Python for data engineering tasks such as programmatic Tableau workbook edits or ad‑hoc ETL.
• Familiarity with PII handling under enterprise SaaS contracts.
• Prior experience as the second or third data hire in a growing company.
