LSQ proficiency and professional interpreting skills are central to freelance assignments with MCIS Language Solutions in Ottawa and nearby communities.
As a Freelance LSQ Interpreter, you will facilitate communication for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across healthcare, legal, educational, and community settings. Assignments may be in person or remote through approved platforms. The work requires accurate interpretation, cultural awareness, confidentiality, and respectful support.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide accurate LSQ interpretation across healthcare, legal, educational, and community settings
- Facilitate communication between LSQ users and spoken-language users
- Preserve original meaning and tone during interpretation
- Support access to healthcare, law enforcement, social services, and education
- Handle remote sessions through video or approved platforms
- Proficiency in Quebec Sign Language and relevant interpreting experience
- Appropriate professional sign language interpreting certification
- Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and respectful communication
- Understanding of Deaf culture and accessible interpreting needs
- Reliable transportation and legal eligibility to work in Canada
