Position OverviewReporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Helper is responsible for assisting with inventory, basic repairs, and basic maintenance in various areas, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, cleaning, painting, lawn and grounds upkeep, and other areas as assigned.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Maintenance Person in performing basic maintenance, including:
- Plumbing: un-clog sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; repair/replace toilets, faucets
- Electrical: repair/replace broken switches/plugs/fuses, replace smoke detectors
- Carpentry: repair/replace damaged wood trim, make doors/windows operable, repair/replace door/window hardware
- Painting
- Telephone
- Drywall
- Unit turnaround overflow
- Maintain the facility's grounds (garbage clean-up, grass cutting, weed control, watering the landscape, snow removal, salting, washing the exterior and interior windows and screens).
- Operate all facility equipment (snow blower, weed trimmer, leaf blower, pressure washer, carpet and upholstery shampoo machine, etc.) safely.
- Vacuuming laundry rooms and dryer filters, elevator tracks and exterior dryer vents.
- Responsible for shampooing carpets and upholstered furniture.
- Assist in the coordination, prioritization and completion of work orders.
- Perform assigned duties promptly and accurately.
- Maintains a safe, secure and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with safety regulations.
- Assist with additional tasks as and when needed or assigned by management both within and outside roles and departments to support Larga operations.
- Previous residential building maintenance experience
- Minimum one (1) year customer service experience
- Must possess or be willing to a working at heights certificate.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull and move equipment up to 75 lbs
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks
- Ability to remain alert and maintain a high level of concentration
- Ability to work independently
- Good judgement
- Good time management skills
- Ability to assess and prioritize work requests
- Inuktitut is a strong asset.
