Location: Chalk River

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily routine radiation and contamination surveys of work areas.
  • Establish barriers and post signage as required based on survey results.
  • Identify radiological hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination or affect the health of employees.
  • Provide job oversight from a radiological aspect and offer guidance and advice to workers.
  • Discuss radiation protection issues with staff in the work area and present recommendations assertively and diplomatically.
  • Initiate and establish additional control measures beyond the normal requirements.
  • Provide radiological advice and guidance to other radiation protection staff and workers.
  • Utilize radiation protection documents to support decisions and guidance in the work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education; or Secondary School Graduation Diploma; or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years pertinent experience; or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Experience
    • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred.
    • Supervisory skills and experience are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to influence and/or educate various work groups.
    • Strong ability to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of all instruments used in radiation work and all radiation protection procedures.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which requires a minimum of 3–5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and/or the United Kingdom.
Working Conditions
  • Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty‑seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
  • Position governed by the USW 1568 Collective Agreement and provides clear expectations for hours of work, wages, vacation, and other working conditions.
