The Opportunity
The Ottawa Senators are seeking an energetic, hard‑working professional to join our Operations team as a Custodial Worker, Crew Lead. This is an excellent opportunity to join an NHL franchise at an intermediate level position which will allow the candidate to become fully engaged in the business of a major league sports team.
This position is responsible for the supervision of all 3rd-party part‑time custodial team members who clean and maintain the Canadian Tire Centre (CTC).
Number of vacancies: 1 – this is a replacement role.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for cleaning and providing high standards of custodian care for the interior and exterior during events at CTC.
- Supervise 3rd‑party custodial team members and ensure they are provided with the proper materials and equipment to successfully complete their tasks.
- Responsible for the coordination of pest‑control activities, ensuring that high standards are maintained throughout.
- Back up to Custodial Supervisor as required.
- Ensure all restrooms are stocked at all times with soap, toilet paper, and other supplies.
- Ensure that the proper inventory of supplies is on hand and maintain accurate records.
- Reference event riders for specific instructions.
- Responsible for ensuring that conference rooms are properly cleaned.
- Perform custodial duties when required, which may include dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and washing fixtures, equipment or CTC furniture.
- Operate light cleaning equipment.
- Assist event promoters with requests and provide excellent customer service.
- Responsible for ensuring that staff is properly trained in all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety.
- Responsible for the supervision of the cleaning and providing high standards of custodian care for the interior and exterior during events at CTC.
- Periodically supervise post‑event overnight cleaning team members and ensure that they are provided with proper materials and equipment to successfully complete their tasks.
- Other duties as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor.
Responsible for ensuring that all areas covered by the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) are adhered to, specifically:
- Performing workplace inspections.
- Conducting safety information sessions.
- Adhering to all OSHA regulations and closely following MSDS forms for special instructions for chemical use.
- Assisting with incident investigations.
- Ensuring that staff is properly trained and advised of safety hazards.
- Observing team members as they perform their duties to ensure safety measures are being followed and ensuring corrective action is taken if safety measures are not being maintained.
- Recognizing team members who follow workplace safety.
- Must be available for shift work including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Minimum 2 years’ previous experience as a supervisor in an industrial environment.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety act, sanitation standards, pest control and waste guidelines.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Must be physically able to do heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) and comfortable working at heights.
- Must possess effective oral and written communication skills.
