Join Us as an Electromechanical Assembler!

Are you passionate about building high-quality electronic products that power real-world IoT solutions? At ORBCOMM, we’re looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Electromechanical Assembler to support the assembly and testing of our IoT-enabled devices in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

As part of ORBCOMM’s Engineering team, reporting to the Director of NPI and PCB Design, you’ll play a hands-on role in bringing innovative IoT hardware to life. You’ll work closely with engineering partners, contribute directly to product quality and reliability, and provide valuable manufacturing feedback that influences design improvements.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your technical skills in electromechanical assembly, collaborate cross-functionally, and continuously develop your expertise in advanced assembly, SMT rework, and IPC standards—all while supporting products deployed globally.

Full onsite position based at our Ottawa, Ontario office.

What You’ll Do
  • Assemble mechanical and electrical components using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring diagrams, and written work instructions.
  • Perform soldering, crimping, and wire routing tasks.
  • Inspect and test completed assemblies for functionality and quality.
  • Identify and report any defects or issues during the assembly process and provide ‘lessons learned’ engineering feedback through experience gained during build activity.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Able to effectively multi-task and accurately track progress.
Who You Are

You’re a hands-on, quality-driven assembler who takes pride in precision work and thrives in a technical, collaborative environment.

Education & Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electronic equipment assembly and manufacturing.
  • Proven experience working with electronic components in a manufacturing or lab environment.
  • Hands-on expertise in soldering, cable assembly, and mechanical/electronic assembly.
  • Experience with fine-pitch SMT soldering and rework (an asset).
  • Experience using a PLM tool such as Agile (an asset).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination for working with small, sensitive components.
  • Proficient with assembly tools, crimping tools, automated equipment, and multimeters.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation.
  • Familiarity with ESD handling best practices.
  • Ability to identify and clearly communicate manufacturing non-conformances.
  • Working knowledge of IPC standards and/or willingness to become ORBCOMM’s IPC resident expert through company-sponsored training (cable assembly, SMT repair, PCBA modification, and inspection).
  • Demonstrated adaptability and ability to multitask.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organized, collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to enhance productivity, with a commitment to continuous learning in digital and AI literacy.
