Your Day to Day as a Shipper/RecieverThe Shipper/Receiver will perform the following duties as required:
- Prepares all outgoing shipments of both radioactive and nonradioactive materials, including labeling, marking, sealing, final closure in accordance with established procedures and regulations.
- Maintains liaison with R & IS Department re-contamination level and radiation requirements for each shipment and each receipt and regarding the routine cleaning and decontamination of flasks.
- Maintains liaison with Traffic Department and other appropriate departments with regards to shipments and receipts.
- Loads trucks with outgoing shipments.
- Unloads and examines, directs and reports all receipts, both active and inactive.
- Maintains records of all shipments and receipts using both manual and data processing systems.
- Compiles information from which specific container inventory level requirements are determined.
- Operates heavy duty hoists, slings, rigs and lift trucks and keeps them in good working order.
- Responsible for housekeeping.
- Maintains the shipping containers in proper physical condition either directly or by having repairs made. Will also be trained in waste management.
- Performs other related duties as appropriate to this level.
- Normally Secondary school diploma.
- 2-3 years of experience in shipping/receiving, with some experience working with radioactive shipments.
- Must be reliable and self-motivated.
- Must be knowledgeable of licensing requirements for radioactive shipments and receipts.
- Must be capable of using, and interpreting the results of radiation detecting instruments.
- Must develop, apply and maintain a knowledge of transport regulations.
- Must have a good working knowledge of all pertinent lifting hoists, slings and power trucks used in the active area.
- Must know all quality control procedures re shipping containers and be able to carry out and interpret the test results.
- Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures for handling radioactive materials in order to assess hazards and take appropriate action.
- Must have a knowledge of the shipping area alarm system.
- Must be able to communicate well orally and maintain neat records.
- Must exhibit good judgement, mental alertness, dependability and the ability to cooperate with others.
