The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for the productivity and flow of the shop floor. The supervisor will mentor machine operators and provide ongoing coaching and feedback as required. Oversee daily operations, making sure production cycles are met from part design to fabrication, while managing costs and expenses through process efficiencies. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Hourly range of $48.00 – $52.00.
This position is for an existing, open vacancy.
Job Duties- This position will entail working on the shop floor with others in the department.
- Supervise the activities of machine shop workers.
- Coach team members on manufacturing best practices.
- Liaise with client and other stakeholders to achieve on time delivery and project commitments.
- Liaise with vendors and purchasing team to source and requisition materials and supplies for machine shop.
- Development of weekly schedule with other members of the supervisory team.
- Assist in the preparation of tenders, budgets, estimates and quotations along with schedules to complete any machine shop projects.
- Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, product quality, and safety standards.
- In conjunction with the Health and Safety Manager and Shop Manager, identify, investigate, correct and document potential environmental and safety hazards within the machine shop.
- Recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
- Report to Shop Manager to provide feedback and report on daily operations.
- Mentor junior staff in job duties and safety procedures.
- Provides information and assists in employee performance reviews based on established criteria.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of manufacturing technology and safe operating techniques.
- Provide support to other teams in the field and/or shop.
- Other duties as required.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a supervisory position in a machine shop environment.
- Red Seal Certification.
- Possess a valid driver's license with a clear driving record.
- Proven mechanical abilities in an industrial environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience with routine maintenance operations.
- Leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise team members.
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability.
- A solid understanding of all applicable trades and techniques.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Experience supporting or performing Quality Assurance (QA) activities is considered an asset.
As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must meet all Government of Canada security screening requirements and maintain the applicable security clearance(s) for the duration of their employment in the role.
Work Conditions- 24/7 availability may be required.
- Employee may be required to work in potentially hazardous environments requiring protective equipment.
- Employee may be exposed to dust, hazardous chemicals and high levels of noise.
- Manual dexterity required to use computers and peripherals.
