Temporary: (May 4th-August 28th)

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada. Today, the Royal College has over 55,000 members, and the vision remains to advance the learning for specialist physicians to deliver the best health care for all. The Royal College partners with patients, Fellows, residents, and other health care collaborators to lead specialty medical education through setting standards, assessment, and enabling continuous learning so that we can provide the best care possible for patients.

Reporting to the Managers, Communications and Creative Services, the student will be tasked with drafting content for internal and external audiences (newsroom articles, social media content and Intranet content), as well as loading content to the website using Adobe Experience Manager. The student will gain valuable work experience working with a team of communications professionals, as well as access to modern, top‑of‑the‑line products related to web development and content management.

The Intern will work in a manner which effectively reflects the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada’s established values of integrity, collaboration and respect.

Typical Day‑to‑Day
  • Building content for the web using Adobe Experience Manager, including posting content, loading photos and files into the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system, and tagging to support our overall analytics systems.
  • Complete Quality Assurance Work:
    Once documents/posts have been built and tagged, review each post for quality (links, layout, rendering, etc.).
  • Supporting the two teams' overall project management and ticketing system.
  • Writing and editing content in support of upcoming key events, including National Indigenous History Month, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as well as Doors Open Ottawa.
  • Providing social media support for major files, including our flagship conference, the International Conference on Residency Education.
  • Supporting our Intranet, including posting news, new pages, events, images, intranet fixes and page maintenance.
  • Assist with the implementation of the “Intranet Champion” community, which will include creating lists of existing sections and helping with setting up a bank of training documents (how‑to videos, checklists, guides, etc.).
Does this sound like you?
  • Currently enrolled in a post‑secondary program to obtain a degree in communications, marketing, journalism or public relations.
  • Reliable, committed and able to perform duties involving attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (for example, Adobe Experience Manager).
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
  • Adaptable with the ability to work effectively in different situations and/or with different people.
  • Excellent written / verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem‑solving skills.
