Note:
Effective January 1, 2026 the salary range for this position is $1,807.13 to $2,093.36 weekly.
Location:
1 English Permanent, 525 Queen St, Smiths Falls, East Region.
Perform media relations activities within the East Region and act as a resource person to regional command staff, unit/detachment commanders, Community Mobilization and Engagement Coordinator and field personnel in the development and implementation of external and internal communication strategies.
What you bring to the team Mandatory Requirements- Ability to pass an OPP background / security investigation.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license to attend incidents, news conferences and training sessions.
- Sound knowledge of policing operations, organizational goals and current media issues.
- Understanding of contentious policing issues to research, draft briefing notes and other communication pieces.
- Ability to apply Ministry and OPP policies to support issue management and briefing note development.
- Skilled communicator with expertise in media relations, public engagement and event coordination.
- Ability to coach spokespeople, collaborate with partners and deliver impactful presentations and training.
- Strong writing and editing skills for a wide range of communications, ensuring clarity, accuracy and audience‑appropriate tone.
- Strong listening and inquiry skills to resolve issues and advise on media strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 tools and online publishing platforms to create polished content and presentations.
- Experience with digital photography and editing to produce compelling presentations, public education materials and dynamic web content.
- Creative problem‑solving skills for community policing, crime prevention and traffic safety communications.
- Analytical insight to assess media impact, evaluate emerging issues and shape strategic communications across print, broadcast and digital platforms.
- Researcher who can source and compile information for media responses, articles and speeches.
