Position: Communications Coordinator (12 Month Contract)

POSITION DESCRIPTION Communications Coordinator Job Overview

As an integral member of the NAFC team, the Communications Coordinator, under the direction of the CEO in the interim and the Senior Communications Coordinator, is responsible for developing and implementing NAFC’s strategic communication plans. The Communications Coordinator will collaborate closely with the communications team, community members, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective communication strategies align with the NAFC’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage NAFC’s social media presence, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement;
  • Monitor and track media coverage and trends related to NAFC’s services and provide regular reports and analysis;
  • Coordinate public relations activities, including building and maintaining relationships with community members and relevant stakeholders;
  • Organize and support the planning and execution of events, campaigns and conferences;
  • Maintain NAFC’s website, ensuring everything is up to date, engaging, and accessible;
  • Stay up to date with the latest communication trends and technologies;
  • Seek opportunities to enhance NAFC’s reputation and propose innovative ideas for enhancing NAFC’s communication strategies.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field;
  • 2-3 years of proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related role, preferably within the non-profit sector;
  • Must be able to work in both official languages;
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous history and culture;
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software;
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver key messages to a diverse audience;
  • Proficiency in creating content for digital and traditional media platforms;
  • Experience in managing social media platforms and utilizing social media management tools;
  • Familiarity with website management and content management systems (CMS);
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and external stakeholders;
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language is also an asset.

Preference will be given to candidates living in the Ottawa/Gatineau region. Depending on applicant qualifications, this role has an expected salary range of $56,700 - $64,100.
