Position Overview
Title:
Nurse Practitioner (RFT 1.0 FTE) – Regular Full‑time – Days/Evenings – Urgent Care Clinic at Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.
The Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) provides timely, low‑barrier access to specialised mental health care. An interdisciplinary team delivers assessment, brief intervention, and stabilization supports for individuals in crisis, working closely with partners such as police, paramedics, and local emergency departments.
Duties- Support triage, assessment, and follow‑up care for individuals presenting in crisis.
- Work in partnership with the program psychiatrist to deliver short‑term treatment plans for clients who meet appropriate criteria, operating independently with appropriate oversight from the psychiatrist.
- Integrate clinical findings and evidence‑based practice to formulate diagnoses and develop initial care plans.
- Collaborate with patients and members of the interdisciplinary team to identify and implement pharmacological and non‑pharmacological interventions that promote optimal outcomes.
- Participate in the dissemination and utilisation of best practice guidelines.
- Provide education, mentorship, and support to the health‑care team, primary care providers, hospital partners, and community groups.
- Advocate for supportive and safe client care and collaborative practice, utilising evidence‑informed practices in conjunction with other primary care providers at The Royal, including NPs across the hospital.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or BSCN with specialty certification as Nurse Practitioner is required.
- Minimum 5years of experience is required.
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Province of Ontario in the Extended Class (CNO) is required.
- Specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner – Primary Health Care (NP‑PHC) or Nurse Practitioner – Adult.
- Master’s preparation as a Nurse Practitioner or BSCN with specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Demonstrated achievement of the nurse‑practitioner competencies of professional role, responsibility and accountability, health assessment and diagnosis, therapeutic management, and health promotion and prevention of illness and injury.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and integration of this legislation into practice (Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decision Act, PHIPA and CSA).
- Recognised leadership skills with the ability to build the interdisciplinary team approach to care delivery.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional interdisciplinary treatment team.
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- CPR certification.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence (travel may be required).
- English level A‑ is mandatory in oral comprehension, expression, reading, and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
$65.09 to $76.14 per hour.
