Compensation Pay Range

$41.15 to $58.98 per hour.

Job Description

CHEO, a global leader in pediatric health, seeks a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse to join the Critical Care Flex Team. The position will provide care in both NICU and PICU units, delivering high‑quality nursing care to children and families.

Unit Summary


Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) : 10 beds, offering comprehensive care for critically ill pediatric patients. Services include congenital heart disease, respiratory failure, neurosurgery, immunodeficiencies, hematologic and oncologic emergencies, sepsis, and multi‑organ dysfunction. Advanced modalities: ECMO, high‑frequency ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, non‑invasive ventilation, hyperbaric oxygen therapy.


Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) : 21 beds, Level IIIb, providing intensive care for preterm and term infants with congenital abnormalities, neuro‑surgical disorders, cardiovascular anomalies, sepsis, and genetic disorders. Advanced modalities: high‑frequency ventilation, JET ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, non‑invasive ventilation, therapeutic hypothermia.

Position Summary

As a member of the Critical Care Flex Team, you will receive training in both NICU and PICU. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families, operating within the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Apply the nursing process effectively.
  • Practice in accordance with the standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the hospital, and the unit.
  • Provide appropriate learning experiences for patients and families to promote wellness and optimal quality of life.
  • Maintain competence and pursue professional development to improve nursing practice.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (Preferred).
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (Essential).
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric acute care experience OR critical care experience OR neonatal experience OR other appropriate combinations of education and experience.
  • Critical care certification or courses (Preferred).
  • Experience caring for hemodynamically unstable and ventilated patients (Preferred).
  • PALS certification, or completion within 12 months of hire (Essential).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (Essential).
  • Culturally sensitive approach to nursing care (Essential).
  • Family‑centered care skills (Essential).
  • Current CPR and NRP certification (Essential).
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential).
  • Bilingual in English and French (Preferred).
