JOB SUMMARYWe are seeking a Senior Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant (RN) to provide advanced clinical expertise, practice leadership, and education in palliative and end-of-life care.
This is a senior individual contributor role combining direct patient care with system-level responsibilities, including practice development, staff education, interdisciplinary collaboration, and participation in quality improvement and research initiatives.
The role requires full on-site presence and strong bilingual (French/English) clinical communication skills.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL PRACTICE- Provide comprehensive palliative care assessments for complex patients
- Recognize and manage end-of-life trajectories and oncologic emergencies
- Support ethical decision-making and goals-of-care discussions
- Provide therapeutic support to patients and families during end-of-life care
- Evaluate current palliative care practices and recommend evidence-based improvements
- Develop and update clinical pathways, protocols, policies, and tools
- Assess and recommend clinical products and equipment related to palliative care
- Support implementation of best practices aligned with national standards
- Identify learning needs for nursing, medical, and interdisciplinary teams
- Deliver clinical education, coaching, and mentorship in palliative care
- Act as a subject-matter expert and resource for complex clinical cases
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and interprofessional teams
- Act as a liaison with regional and provincial healthcare partners
- Participate internal and external committees related to palliative care
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research and quality improvement initiatives
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 5 years total clinical RN experience
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in palliative care, oncology, or end-of-life care
- Demonstrated advanced expertise in symptom management and complex clinical cases
- Strong professional proficiency in both French and English (spoken and written)
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Ottawa
- CNA Certification in Palliative Care (CHPCN(C))
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Health Sciences, Education, or a related field
- Experience in clinical education, mentorship, or practice leadership
- Participation in research or quality improvement initiatives
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and clinical documentation systems
