Position: Registered Nurse, Diabetes, Ambulatory Care – Permanent Full-Time (1.0)

Position Summary

In keeping with the mission statement of the hospital and the nursing department, the Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families living with type 1 diabetes and may be on or transitioning to insulin pump therapy. The nurse assigned to this position is required to function independently and as a member of the Diabetes team in order to provide family focused and evidence‑based nursing practice.

Duties
  • Diabetes Nurse Educator role in the insulin pump program.
  • Telephone counselling for families.
  • Extensive teaching of families and other health care professionals.
  • Participation in all clinical activities.
  • Participation in research and continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialty.
  • Involved in the development of electronic and educational resources for diabetes care and the insulin pump program.
Qualifications
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • Current Certification of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (Essential)
  • Bilingualism (English/French) (Essential)
  • BScN (current or in progress) (Essential)
  • Minimum two years Diabetes Paediatric experience (Preferred)
  • Certified Diabetes Educator (in progress or ability to achieve within one year) (Essential)
  • Certified insulin pump trainer (Essential)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (Essential)
  • Strong teaching skills (Essential)
  • Demonstrated professionalism and interest in self development (Essential)
  • Demonstrated strong family centered care skills (Essential)
  • Ambulatory Care experience (Preferred)
  • Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, Epic, pump and meter downloads) (Preferred)

Represented by the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA).

Compensation

$41.15-$58.98
