Nurse Practitioner, Infectious Disease and Allergy, Ambulatory Care

Compensation Pay Range: $65.09-$76.14

Employment Type: Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Registered Nurse with advanced education, working with the Division of Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Allergy to provide patient‑ and family‑centered care to immunocompromised children and youth.

The NP is a registered nurse with advanced education (Master’s or Doctoral) licensed as RN (Extended Class) and holds a scope of practice that includes diagnosis, ordering and interpretation of tests, prescribing medications, and performing medical procedures. The NP functions as both an autonomous practitioner and a collaborator, providing leadership, education, research, and development within advanced nursing practice.

The NP works with the Division of Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Allergy to deliver comprehensive care to children and youth who are immunocompromised, medically complex, or living with immune‑mediated conditions. Responsibilities include patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, immunization guidance, consultation, continuity of care, program development, quality improvement, education, and research.

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examination.
• Develop and implement plans of care collaboratively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Order and prioritize diagnostic tests, and initiate procedures as needed.
• Interpret laboratory, radiology, and other test results to determine diagnoses and differential diagnoses.
• Prescribe pharmacological and other therapeutic interventions.
• Monitor treatments and modify plans based on outcomes.
• Communicate diagnoses, treatment plans, and disease‑specific education to patients and caregivers.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create holistic care plans.
• Provide follow‑up care for patients requiring regular visits.
• Perform skills and procedures within competency in the clinical specialty.
• Identify socioeconomic needs of patients and caregivers to inform clinical decisions.

• Consult and refer to specialist providers as needed.
• Document all patient work‑up and care in the EMR.
• Provide transfer of care for patients requiring alternative care.
• Authorize, facilitate, and coordinate admissions, transfers, leaves of absence, and discharges.
• Engage in care coordination via phone, virtual visits, patient conferences, multidisciplinary meetings, rounds, and clinic visits.
• Promote health and disease prevention through verbal and written communication, program development, and educational lectures.

• Identify, lead, and implement specialty‑specific program initiatives and care delivery improvements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives with the interdisciplinary team.
• Act as a change agent for continuous improvement of care delivery.
• Participate in organizational committees and serve as a key stakeholder.
• Fulfill advanced nursing practice scope with strong clinical and academic leadership.
• Pursue leadership opportunities within clinical and academic settings.

• Provide formal and informal teaching and education to clinical staff and learners.
• Mentor NP students from various programs and institutions.
• Seek joint appointments to encourage educational collaboration with universities and colleges.
• Encourage and provide education opportunities in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Engage in self‑directed professional development to maintain competency.
• Disseminate education to health care community partners and professionals.

• Identify and incorporate evidence into practice‑based decision‑making and patient care.
• Lead and participate in specialty‑specific research.
• Promote quality improvement through best practices and evidence‑informed change.
• Seek appointment with the Research Institute as a Clinical Investigator.
