Position: Registered Nurse, Ambulatory Care (initial assignment Infectious Diseases) – Permanent Full-Time (1.0)

POSITION

SUMMARY

In keeping with the Mission Statement of the hospital and the nursing department, the Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for individual patients and families. Programs and services under the division of Infectious Diseases include general infectious diseases, tuberculosis, primary immune clinic, HIV clinic, RSV prophylactic clinic, travel medicine, and specialty immunization clinic. The nurse assigned to this position is required to function independently and as a member in all areas of the  to provide family focused and evidence-based nursing care.

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Deal compassionately with infants, children and their families with a variety of infectious diseases pathologies, including children and youth living with and/or affected with HIV, tuberculosis, and primary immune pathologies.
  • Manage and coordinate care with partner organizations for babies who meet criteria for the RSV prophylactic program.
  • Teaching of families and other health care professionals.
  • Identify real and potential problems and respond to emergencies by intervening directly or referring to other health care professionals.
  • Participation in all clinic activities.
  • Participation in research.
  • Continuous learning to develop expertise in the specialties.

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process. This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Essential)
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario (Essential)
  • Current CPR certification (Essential)
  • BScN (current or in progress) (Preferred)
  • Minimum three years Pediatric experience or other appropriate combinations of education and experience, along with the demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position, may be considered in lieu of stated education and experience (Essential )
