North Grenville is a growing municipality located in eastern Ontario housing a unique blend of small town and rural culture. Comprised of an urban centre (Kemptville) and surrounded by several charming rural hamlets, North Grenville is situated between Canada’s National Capital – Ottawa and the St. Lawrence River, only a 30-minute drive along the Veterans Memorial Highway (416), to either destination.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Parks Foreman, or their designate, the Parks & Trails Labourer will assist with the development, execution and maintenance of parks and trails amenities that includes beautification of gardens and shrubs in parks and trails, tree re-planting and inventory.

Qualifications:
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent education and training
  • Previous related work experience in parks horticulture and maintenance
  • Superior Customer service, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills combined with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong team and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Standard First Aid and level C CPR certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge and training in workplace health and safety, and WHMIS is considered an asset
  • Physically fit to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Valid and in good standing Class G
  • Valid and satisfactory Police Records Check
Position

Description:
  • Operate and maintains all equipment and structures for parks, including lawn mowers and trimmers in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ensures compliance with the Municipality’s approved health and safety policies and procedures and any other applicable legislation relating to workplace health and safety and fire/building legislation and policies
  • Performs administration functions as designated by the Parks Foreman including preparing Incident Reports as required
  • Maintains all gardens on municipal properties
  • Assists with the placement of new benches for trails and beautification
  • Assists with the completion of inventory of all municipal trees and species identification
  • Performs other duties relevant to the position as assigned
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements:
  • Based on a 40-hour work week, five day, 8-hour shift rotation and the ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift and move objects of under 50 pounds
  • Attend meetings, and training as required
  • Facility environment plus travel to other municipally owned facilities for inspection and maintenance
  • Exposure to elements such as inclement weather (extreme heat/cold), chemicals, dust, waste site environment, garbage and noise
  • Seasonal position from April through October
Compensation:
  • The salary for this position is $29.12/hour.
  • Based on a 40-hour work week.
