Seasonal Horticulturalists maintain Beechwood cemetery’s gardens and surrounding grounds. This work includes preparing soil, planting and transplanting (bulbs, perennials, annuals, and shrubs), and maintaining (weeding, edging, cultivating, irrigating and pruning) the overall look of our cemetery. Seasonal Horticulturalists may also operate power and manual equipment and/or tools such as gators, golf carts, mowers, trimmers and any other types of equipment/tools. They must work well individually and as part of a team.
Team Leads are additionally responsible for training, supervising, and leading teams of up to 8 employees. Team Leads also resolve minor conflicts or issues that may arise within their team and report regularly to the Chief Horticulturist. Team Leads must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Working conditions can include:- Use of personal protective equipment is necessary.
- Regular exposure to conditions including heat, humidity, noise, dust, and frequent temperature changes.
- Regular physical activity including walking, standing, sitting, lifting, and other physically demanding conditions.
- Performance of strenuous physical labour, including lifting heavy objects (up to 13 kilograms)
- Occasional overtime.
Competitive applications will include education or experience in programs or roles relating to horticulture, landscaping, agronomy, or arboriculture.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract.
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
- Demonstrated time management skills
Seasonal Horticulturalists’ base wage ranges from $20.50/hour to $22.50/hour depending on level of experience. Horticulturalist Team Leads’ hourly rate is $26.50/hour. Vacation pay and other additional compensation is paid according to statutory requirements.
Seasonal Horticulturalists regularly work 40-hour weeks; usually Monday to Friday, but occasionally weekend shifts are required. Extended shifts may also occasionally be required and compensated according to overtime regulations.
Seasonal employment may start as early as April 6, 2026 and end as late as November 13, 2026. Specific start and end dates will be negotiated with selected individual with an offer of employment. Some shorter term contracts are available for university and high school students.
