Pet Smart’s Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) engages with pet parents and pets, providing positive experiences and high‑quality salon services. After completing the Pet Smart Grooming Academy, the trainee works under supervision, learning grooming techniques, maintaining store cleanliness, and providing safety standards.

Responsible for engaging pet parents, providing grooming services, maintaining sanitation, ensuring pet safety, and promoting sales. Role includes full menu of bath, brush, and grooming services, nail trims, teeth brushing, supervisory tasks, and achieving salon sales targets.
Essential Responsibilities- Under supervision, performs full menu of bath, brush, and grooming services and standalone services such as nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per Pet Smart’s standards.
- Develop and display safe technical skills meeting or exceeding company minimum expectations.
- Recommend additional health and wellness solutions to pet parents based on pet’s needs.
- Manage pet parent experience in person, over phone, and at sales register.
- Greet pet parents, answer questions, and assist with salon reservations.
- Conduct salon appointment reminder calls, maintain client records, and consult with pet parents on services offered.
- Perform check‑in and check‑out procedures for grooming appointments, including paperwork and rebooking.
- Promote opportunities to grow salon sales to achieve sales targets and productivity metrics.
- Recommend, inform, and sell merchandise and services.
- Maintain highest level of cleanliness, sanitation, humane conditions for all pets; perform maintenance throughout day including end‑of‑day cleaning per checklist.
- Take immediate action when a sick/injured pet is identified; transport to the vet as needed.
- Assist and work in other departments as required; other duties may be assigned.
- Participate in culture of belonging and recognition.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Successful completion of Pet Smart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification program.
- Prior grooming experience preferred; may be asked to complete a technical exam.
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Flexibility in schedule; able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and safety measures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Stand, walk, climb ladder, use hands to handle, feel, hold, write; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; depth perception required.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional team lifts over 100 pounds.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts, wet setting with pet hair; moderate noise; occasional high noise; exposure to live animals and handling.
Position is paid per hour. This position is paid on a per hour basis and will not pay less than the local minimum wage. Eligible for benefits as described at Part‑time employees in Saskatchewan may be eligible for medical and other benefits after completing six months of continuous service and working an average of at least 15 hours per week.
