Job Description
Join WSP’s growing Archaeological Team as an Archaeological Field Director based in Ottawa, Ontario. In this role, you will lead field programs, mentor teams, and collaborate closely with Indigenous communities and project partners to deliver high‑quality archaeological outcomes.
Responsibilities- Lead and oversee archaeological fieldwork programs, including surveys, excavations, and data collection activities.
- Motivate, guide, and support field technicians to deliver efficient, high‑quality work.
- Conduct in‑field identification of Indigenous and Euro‑Canadian artifact assemblages.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop field technicians and junior team members.
- Contribute to technical archaeological reporting and proposal development.
- Champion health and safety by providing visible leadership in all aspects of fieldwork.
- Collaborate with project managers, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities to meet project objectives, schedules, and regulatory requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or a related discipline.
- Professional Research License to conduct archaeological fieldwork, in good standing with the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism.
- Strong working knowledge of the Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism’s Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an Archaeological Field Director (preferred).
- Proficiency with digital data collection tools and software (Field Maps/Collector, ArcGIS).
- Demonstrated experience with Indigenous engagement and collaboration.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail in field documentation and health and safety reporting.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and ability to operate field and fleet vehicles.
